Did You Know that if you keep yourself
health, in good physical condition, you can cut down on your medical bills? For
you and/or your family?
If you keep your body healthy you may not need to go to the doctor often.
Everyone needs a yearly check-up to make sure you are in good physical health.
But eating right and exercising may prevent diseases like diabetes and high
blood pressure. The cost of medications are expensive. If you don't have to
spend the money, why do it?
• Eat A Balanced Diet
- This means eating foods for the four basic food
groups:
- Grains. You should eat 6 oz. of
grains everyday to get carbohydrates. These are: pasta, bread, cereals,
rice, crackers, muffins. Grains raise insulin levels which may caus a
diabetes problem in some people. If you have a problem with eating
grains, you can try Broccoli, Lettuce, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Mushrooms,
Green beans, Onions, Asparagus, Cucumber, Spinach, peppers, Zucchi. For
making sandwiches, replace the bread with dark lea greens.
- Dairy. Three cups of low-fat
dairy products to get calcium. Examples of diary products are milk,
yogurt, cheese. Dairy may cause congestion problems, digestion problems,
ear infections, or acne.If you cannot eat diary products. You may try Soy
milk, rice milk, almond milk, coconut milk, wholesoy yogurt, wildwood
yogurt, Daiya cheese, wayfare cheese
- Meats/Beans. You should eat 5 and
½ oz of lean protein per day. These are: beef, chicken, pork, eggs, nuts,
fish. Protein is needed for your hair, skin, and muscles. Some people may
not be able to digest meat. To get protein in your diet, try these foods:
nuts, seeds, spinach.
- Fruits/Vegetables. You
should get two cups of fruits per day. You should get 2 ½ cups of
vegetables per day. These foods could be fresh, canned, or dried fruits.
Examples of vegetables are spinach, kale, broccoli.
• Get enough sleep.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute suggests
eight to eight and a half hours of sleep for adults.
• Exercise. It is recommended an adult should exercise at least two hours
a day.
