Help And Hope. We Can Do It
Wow, more isolation...wearing masks and social distancing for a little while longer. I know...everybody is tired of it. We are disappointed that our normal way of life and mores have been disrupted and we have to be inside for the holidays....what a bummer. But you know what? It's okay. It is going to be alright. We have help and hope coming in the Biden-Harris administration. They have the background, knowledge and leadership to get us through this and make us better for it.
This pandemic experience will allow us to appreciate the moutaintop because we have been through the valley. This occurence has taught us to appreciate one another. It has shown us that we can help each other when the chips are down. We are resilient. We don't give up, we have the power to change a situation when we don't like it.
The changes we have had to make, wearing masks every time we go outside, washing our hands constantly and turning our homes into our jobs and classrooms have taken its toll. But we found out that we can do it. We can develop workarounds to carry out our day-to-day activities, it just takes a little longer that's all. The things that have happened during this year 2020 have caused us to have uncomfortable conversations, but at least we have started the dialogue. We are all more alike than we are different. We all eat, drink and go to the bathroom the same way. The differences we have are sometimes the ones we have created.
Now we know there is light at the end of the tunnel and the plan our upcoming leadership has for us to relieve our stress. We can get through these next few months. I know that means our holidays get-togethers will be different. However we cannot let the desire to keep tradition, be more important than our lives.
The virtual gatherings and phone calls could become a regular part of our traditions going forward. Sometimes having our friends and family over can cause stress and arguments. But that will not be a problem with the virtual/phone call gathering. The only stress with the virtual gathering is how to use the platform. If a person does not have a working computer or good internet connection, the telephone can be used.
The stress we have been through over this past year has come from the unknown. But now there is a plan. We know what to look forward to with new leadership and how we will receive help.
While we are inside there are things we can do to occupy ourselves, as I have written in previous postings. You can have your own activities and the kids can have theirs. While your activities may include home repair, arts and crafts or cooking, the kids have school. The idea of teaching the kids again from home can bring its own challenges. With that in mind, I have included some websites for English, History and Math to help you.
There is also shopping to do at the bottom of the page, encouraging words to read and games that everyone can play to make your time together more fun.
I know this year has been rough but we have learned how we can help each other in a crisis (like with food or shelter), how we can turn our hobbies into businesses with our free time and discover workarounds to get things done. We have made lemonade out of lemons.
We will look back on this period in history and remember the special time we had with loved ones, the conversations we were forced to have with one another, all the things we learned about each other and the goodness in humanity that made us better people.
