Correcting Bad Behavior To Live Stress Free
The events that unfolded at the nation's capital in
Washington DC recently are a horrible, egregious disregard for the law this
country was founded upon. We scratch our heads and ask ourselves, how could
this happen, how did this happen. This is a reminder that words are powerful.
The things we say have consequences so we have to choose our words carefully.
In this situation words brought death, harm, stress and anxiety to others. And
eventhough there was a disregard for the law, it is this law and the individuals
behind enforcing this law, that will return us to the beginings of a stress free
life.
When something disrespectful is done to hurt someone's feelings or what has been traditionally recognized as hurting someone, that is bad behavior. When a person gets his/her way despite the fact that how they are going about getting their way is wrong legally, this is bad behavior. When the behavior is allowed to continue, the individual never gets the sense of "I can't do that". The person's bavior may be morally wrong but not legally wrong. If it is legally wrong the individuals who know it is wrong may feel it would take too long to get justice or it is not worth trying. Therefore the bad behavior continues. Why reward bad behavior? When rewarded, it is allowed to take hold, cultivate, and grow. While a person's negative behavior may have been allowed, the person with the behavior has the responsibility to say, "I will not do this, this is not right to do". If this does not occur, action has to be taken.
There was a lot of bad behavior on display here. This bad behavior chips away at our laws and democracy if it is not stopped. There has always been incidents in history which have resulted in a teachable moment, something to learn from, and steps were taken to see that it did not happen again. If it did happen again, the hope was present that the result of its impact was lessened.
We trust what people say, for the most part. If someone says they will do something it is believed, especially if they have the experience to back it up. When trust is taken advantage of and the envelope is pushed, it makes for a stressful or in this case, harmful situation. The only way to stop the chaos, get rid of the stress is to make sure it does not happen again.
How could this happen? Everyone is fallible. What we continue to learn is, anything is possible. What has to be realized is the mistake, then the actions to correct the mistake. Mistakes that cause stress and anxiety don't have to be repeated, as long as we are able to learn from our past. The democracy in which we live has laws with built in mechanisms to rectify circumstances as they occur. The enforced policies and laws which make up our demcracy will be used to correct this situation also. So don't worry. We will be able to look into a bright future once again with stress free optimism, a new direction, and new leadership.
