Two Quora Accounts
Recently I discovered I had two accounts, one with followers and one without, one containing my spaces (Quora's page equivalent to other social media platforms) and all things I have knowledge on, and one without. As I looked at the two accounts they were identical with picture and profile description but the one without followers had upvotes next to the answers and recent postings, whereas the one with followers had answers that went back two years. I went to Quora's help center and learned the accounts could NOT be merged. Basically there was nothing Quora could do. I would have to copy the questions/answers into the account I wanted to keep and delete the other account. I had to ask myself , "Do I want to go through the trouble of trying to fix the problem?" The answer was yes. I already spent a lot of time in Quora working in the accounts and I enjoy Quora.
So, I scratched my head, puzzled as to how this could have happened. Then it occurred to me. At some point I signed in using my google account, which you are prompted to do by a popup message.
It never dawned on me I would be creating a second account. I thought I was just signing into my account.
I tried different things to combine the accounts myself. This was an exercise in frustration. I finally discovered the problem, it was the email address. At some point I must have changed the email address of the old account I want to keep, to the same email address of the account I want to delete. So when I logged into the old account, the Quora page showed the new account information with no followers and no upvotes. Oh my gosh, this was maddening. I went into the account settings AGAIN and noticed the email address of my new account was my primary email address. After some internet research, I decided to gamble and add another email address (confirming and saving), assuming that once I added the new email address, I would then be allowed to make the email address I just added, my primary email address in the new account (the one I want to delete). And it worked. Because I added the email address, I was able to remove (delete) the 'other' email address.
I could not believe it WORKED, after three hours of trying to find a solution. I still have two separate accounts but I can now log into each one with different email addresses. This allowed me to copy questions/answers from my new account with upvotes, recent answers and no followers to the old account with followers, that went back two years. I imagine you are asking, "How were you able to do this?" I highlighted and copied all the questions/answers from the new account into a Word document (whatever you have notepad, etc), I opened my old Quora account, searched for the question then posted my answer to it.
For the answers that had upvotes, I contacted the individuals who gave them to me, explained what happened and asked them to re-add the upvote (or comment).
Hopefully they will. Since my new account had the questions on them which were asked of the upvote individuals, I decided not to delete it right away. Now I am satisfied, and have the account I want.
The moral to this story? If you find yourself with two Quora accounts, check your email address in settings before doing anything else. This may save you hours of maddening frustration, allowing you to fix the problem yourself.
I received an email from Quora support suggesting the second account be deleted.
